The Magic of Nadeem Sarwar

Nadeem Sarwar is the most popular Nauha Khawan among all Muslims especially Shia Muslims. He is the son of (Late) Syed Asrar Hussain Rizvi and Syeda Nargis Khatoon of Karachi, Pakistan. He had started Nauha Khwaani at the age of four and his first teacher for reciting was his mother. He was born on 25th of Octuber in1970 in Karachi.  Sarwar is a highly educated individual.

He had aquired the degrees of Mechanical Engineering, Commercial Designing, Fine Art, as well as Interior Designing. He is a keen lover of sports. He had a great interest in playing cricket and badminton. He had also played first class cricket in 90’s.He has also been a winning champion of Table tennis and Badminton tournaments held at inter school level.

He used to live in Karachi but later on moved to Melbourne ,Australia due to security threats as one of his team member got killed in target killing. His both sons , elder one named Syed Ali shanawar and Syed Ali jee, are also well known noha reciters.

Nadeem Sarwar have maintained the quality and standard of his albums for more than last 32 years and have also maintained his no 1 position in the world of noha-recitation.

The craze for Nadeem Sarwar that I witnessed in the last three days at Hyderabd beggars description. Of course, it owes to the love and devotion for Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) by his followers. I’m afraid it is turning into a cult by itself. Scrap away the sheen of religion and devotion and beneath the spiritual surface exterior you would discover a new cultural trend in Shia Youth that appears to be the emulation of popular Western Pop Singers like Elvis Aaron Presley,  Frank Sinatra or Michael Jackson. It is not what it should be.

We, the followers of Islam and Imam Hussain (AS) need Nouhakwans, Marsiyakhans and not the “King of Rock and Roll” or simply “the Kings.

His both sons. followed the footsteps of their father as it also runs in their bloods.

For the new generation, they have to decide what do they want to become………….Naim Naqvi
