Aamir Khan believes that an actor makes a film song popular. His wits have gone wool gathering again; he is wide off the mark. Success has gone to his head. Public has not yet forgiven or forgotten his remarks about the name of his poodle – Shahrukh. It was a bad joke. His recent resignation and remark about \u2018who owns a song\u2019 is a bad vibe. He says, \u201cA lyricist doesn\u2019t add up too much.\u201d Its like stating that foundation of an edifice doesn\u2019t matter much. His statement simply reflects his lack of understanding of history of music and ignorance about the waters he is swimming in. Only a bloke deficient of aesthetic sense could spin a yarn like that. I wonder if he did ever listen the lyrics written by Sahir Ludhyanwi, Shakeel Badayooni, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Shalendra and Gulzar. He seems to blissfully unaware of the music of Ghulam Haider, S.D. Burman, Noushad, Anil Da, Madan Mohan and Jai Dev.<\/p>\n

Leaving aside some exceptions, there had been only a few actors who were able to do justice to the spirit of songs. Throwing one leg here and shaking one hip there is no acting. Of course, there were greats like Balraj Sahni, Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Devanand and Gurdutt but you aren\u2019t one of them Aamir!

\nTake some times out with 3 idiots and listen to \u201cChalo dildar chalo, chand ke paar chalo\u2026\u201d written by Kaif Bhopali and composed by Ghulam Haider. Listen to songs of \u201cPyaasa\u201d and \u201cKagez Ke Phool.\u201d Go through the lyrics of \u201cKabhi Kabhi.\u201d It would improve your taste and you would learn something new about the beauty of words and music. He must understand that most of the lyrics survived because of the emotional appeal of their sensitive words, fine music composition and excellent renditions. The everlasting magic of \u201cBinaca Geet Mala\u201d, \u201cKohinoor Geet Gunjar\u201d and the \u201cVividh Bharti\u201d had nothing to do with the senseless gymnastics of the actors but the words and music of their creators.<\/p>\n

When Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan mesmerized the world with \u201cVande Matram\u201d he wasn\u2019t coaxing some pony tail to come with him to Khandala. It were the words of the song and the magic of music that give life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
