What Is Moharram ?

Rāyyan bin Shabeeb, who says that I went to meet Imām Ali ar Rezā (a.s.) on the first day of the month of Moharram. Imām Rezā (a.s.) asked me,

O son of Shabeeb! Are you in the state of fasting today”?
“This is the day when Prophet Zakariyyah (a.s.) prayed to his Lord thus
“Lord grant me from unto Thee a good offspring, Verily Thou art the Hearer of Prayers”

Then Allāh accepted his Prayers and commanded His Angels to go and give him glad tidings regarding the birth of his son Prophet Yahyā (a.s.). The Angels came and called out to him while he was engaged in Prayers in the niche. Hence the one who fasts on this day and asks for his desires from Allāh, his prayer will be answered as was of Zakariyāh.”

Then Imām (a.s.) said,

“O son of Shabeeb! Moharram is such a month that the Arabs of the age of ignorance (pre-Islāmic) too respected it’s sanctity and forbade oppression and blood-shed in it. But these people (the umayyads) did not honour the sanctity of this month nor of their Prophet. In this month they killed the son of the Prophet and imprisoned the women-folk after looting and plundering their belongings, verily Allāh will never ever forgive this crime of theirs.”

“O son of Shabeeb! If you wish to mourn and lament over anyone, do so upon Husain bin Ali bin Abi Tālib (a.s.) for he was beheaded like a lamb. Eighteen persons from among his family, who were unparalleled in the earth, were also killed alongwith him. The heavens and the earth lamented the death of Husain. Four thousand Angels descended from the heavens to aid him, but when they reached there they saw that he had already been mar-tyred. Thus, now they all remain near his blessed grave with disheveled hair covered with dust until the rising of the Qaem (Imām al Mahdi). Then they will all aid him and their slogan will be: Vengeance for the blood of Husain.”

“O son of Shabeeb! My father (Imām Moosā al Kazim) has related from his father (Imām Ja’far as Sādiq), who has related from his grandfather (Imām Ali Zainul Ābedeen), that when my grandfather Imām Husain (a.s.) was mar¬tyred, the sky rained blood and red sand.”

“O son of Shabeeb! If you weep over the afflictions of Husain (a.s.) such that tears flow from your eyes and fall upon your cheeks, Allāh will forgive all your sins whether big or small and less or large in number.”

“O son of Shabeeb! If you desire to meet Allāh the Glorified in a state purified of all sins, then go for the pilgrimage to the grave of Imām Husain (a.s.).”

“O son of Shabeeb! If you desire that you may abide in the palaces of Paradise in the company of the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.s.) and his Progeny, then invoke Allāh’s curse upon the murderers of Imām Husain (a.s.).”

“O son of Shabeeb! If you desire to earn the reward of those who were martyred alongwith Imām Husain (a.s.), then whenever you remember him, say: I wish I had been with them, then I too would have attained the Great Triumph.”

“O son of Shabeeb! If you desire to reside in the exalted status of Para¬dise alongwith us, then bemoan our sorrows and sufferings and rejoice in our happiness and remain attached to our love. For even if a person is attached to a stone in this world, Allāh shall make him arise with it on the day of Qiyāmah.”

Holy Shrine and the dance of death

Two alleged suicide bombers blew themselves up at the Data Ganj Bakhsh shrine on Thursday night at Lahore, killing at least 41 people and injuring 170 others.

THERE IS no end in sight to the game of religious delinquency and degeneration. Two alleged suicide bombers blew themselves up at the Data Ganj Bakhsh shrine on Thursday night at Lahore, killing at least 41 people and injuring 170 others. The first explosion took place in the basement reserved for ablution and the second in front of the shrine’s main building where a large number of people from across the province gather for worship on Thursdays.

Here you face Extremism with a strategy and with hi-fi precision. Surveillance cameras, walk through gates and metal detectors were rendered ineffective in advance. According to the Senior Superintendent of Police Chaudhry Shafiq two suicide attacks had been carried out and investigators had found the bombers’ skulls and limbs. He said ball-bearings and other material used in the blasts had also been collected. Lahore Commissioner Khusro Pervaiz Bakhtiar told journalists at the spot that the bombers had blown themselves up during a large congregation.

And to cap the story – the Pakistani Taliban denied any involvement in the attack.
The civilized society of the world in general and Muslims around the world in particular are no longer shocked when they witness the misdeeds of these religious fanatics in different places.

Irrespective of what Talibans, their Wahabbi guides and admirers say, rest of the world knows well that they have hijacked the agenda of True Islam with the clandestine support of Wahabbi regimes of Middle East, Pakistan Military, Intelligence and the chieftains of tribal belts of Afghanistan. These brutalities can be traced back to the time by Syrians Rulers a few decades after the death of Prophet Mohd (PBUH). They had massacred the entire family of Prophet (PBUH). The martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet (PBUH) is remembered by Muslims in the Islamic month of Moharram every year to remind that crooked, inhuman and heinous past.

A few centuries ago, the world witnessed the revival of the same cruel streaks in Najd Province (in Arab Peninsula that time and now in Saudi Arabia ) where these marauders played the game of death and destruction in pursuance of their newly invented Wahabi doctrine.

In 1802, and army led by the sons of Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab (the founder of Wahhabism) and Muhammad ibn Saud occupied Taif and began a bloody massacre. A year later, the forces occupied the holy city of Mecca. They executed a campaign of destruction in many sacred places and leveled all the existing domes, even those built over the well of Zamzam. Wahhabis to re-occupied Mecca in 1805.

In 1806, the Wahhabi army occupied Medina. They did not leave any religious building, including mosques, without demolishing it, whether inside or outside the Baqi’ (graveyard). They razed to ground the tombs of the Hazrat Fatima, the daughter of Prophet (PBUH) and all his grandsons, relatives, companions and highly revered personalities buried in different graveyards. They intended to demolish the grave of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), but would repeatedly change their minds. At this time, non-Wahhabi Muslims were prevented from performing the Hajj (pilgrimage). In 1805, Iraqi and Iranian Muslims were refused permission to perform Hajj, as were the Syrians in 1806 and Egyptians the following year. The Saudi leader at the time wanted the pilgrims to embrace his Wahhabi beliefs and accept his Wahhabi mission.

So, there is nothing new in the recurring incidents of madness as long as we have the people who preach and pratice Wahabiyat.

These Sufis are usually Syeds, the progeny of Prophet (PBUH) and their shrines in the Indian sub-continent symbolize love and amity amongst all religions. These are the epitomes of humanity, friendship, kindness, tolerance, universal brotherhood and all that is sublime in human life. These crazy killers, who call themselves the soldiers of Islam can’t see peace and brotherhood in any form.
For them the name of the game is the dream of Beautiful Virgin Girls in Heaven as a reward for their inhuman deeds in this world. They are ready to commit any act to reach them !

Message of Moharrum

The sight of moon and the month of Moharram is a reminder to people that one should fight against oppression and tyranny and help the cause of the oppressed. It rekindles the values that are so dear to all humanity.

SUFI SAINT Khawaja Moinuddin Chishty Ajmeri had said:

“Shah ast Hussain, badshah ast Hussain
Deen ast Hussain, deen panaah ast Hussain
Sar daad, na daad dast dar dast-e-yazeed
Haqu-e-binney la ilaahaa ast Hussain.”

It means:
Hussain is the King, he is King of Kings,
Hussain is Faith , he is the Protector of Faith.
He gave his Head, but not his Hand in the hand of Yazid Verily, truth is nothing but Hussain.
Over one thousand three hundred and fifty years ago, on the 10th of Muharram, just a short time before sundown a man stood on a sand-dune at Karbala. He was bleeding from several wounds on his body. He had lost everything. Since early morning he had carried several dead bodies into his camp. He had even buried his infant child. He looked at the bodies of his loved ones. Tears flowed  down his eyes. He looked at the sky and seemed to draw some strength from an unseen source. Then, like a muezzin (one who calls Azan) from a minaret, he raised a call:
Is there anyone who will come to assist us?
Is there anyone who will respond to our call for aid?
He turned direction and repeated the call.
His call was not meant to ask the help for himself. No, he was calling to save humanity!

Islam is the religion of peace, justice and freedom. It made its appearance in the era of darkness when killings were a way to solve problems. Society was fueled with feuds. If one was born in a low-family, it would mean eternal slavery, oppression, and stripping of any and all rights. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) gave as clarion call against those ways. He strived for justice and equality. He preached the Monotheistic Concept of God and gave us one of the most precious gifts, namely the collective duty to stand for the Haqq (Truth) and denounce Batil (Falsehood). He taught humanity to stand up to oppressors and tyrants no matter what the price was to be paid.  He advocated that it does not require a majority to prevail, but rather a profoundly faithful few, who are keen to uphold the truth and sacrifice for it.

Imam Husain was the grandson of Prophet Mohd (PBUH). He was the son of the 4th Caliph of Islam Hazrat Ali (KAW) and Bibi Fatimah (SAA) – the daughter of Prophet. On the 10th of Muharram, 61 after Hijrah (680 AD) Imam Hussain was martyred by the army of Yazid and this tragedy shook the Muslim world. His martyrdom continues to be remembered by those who love the Prophet (PBUH) and his family.
Everybody knows that Islamic Calendar is Lunar. At the end of month of Dil Hijja (In Urdu it is called Zil Hij) the first visible sight of the slight Crescent moon (Hilal) in the sky announces the arrival of Moharrum – the first month of the New Islamic Year. While every Muslim prays for the beginning of anew year full of happiness and prosperity, the month of Moharrum also reminds of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.

Imam Hussain is one the greatest personality of Islam as he is loved, respected and admired for his courage and fortitude as he rebelled against the inhuman, corrupt, delinquent and tyrant ruler Yezied, the son of Muawiah. According to historical references Yezied was not properly educated with the teachings of Islam. He used to drink alcohol, gamble, and commit all other sins. This despot transformed the face of the Islam of Prophet and made it a subservient of his whims and fancies. He brought back the old debauch and unprincipled life-style that Prophet and his companions banished and destroyed from ordinary life.  Truth, Justice, Equality, Freedom and Liberty were all at stake during his rule. All precious values were disappearing from the life of Islam and that demanded precious sacrifice. Imam Hussain chose the path of danger and hardships and never swerved from it giving up his life.

The sight of moon and the month of Moharram is a reminder to people that one should fight against oppression and tyranny and help the cause of the oppressed. It rekindles the values that are so dear to all humanity.
