Bipasha vrs Priyanka – a healthy competition

Bipasha Basu and Priyanka Chopra

Bipasha Basu and Priyanka Chopra

A true film-making pioneer who has inspired dozens of filmmakers, Charlie Chaplin couldn’t resist the temptation of playing more than one role in his movies. He wrote and directed The Great Dictator, a 1940 satire of Nazi Germany. In a classic tale of mistaken identity, Chaplin played both. In 1917 Dadasaheb Phalke’s ’ Lanka Dahan’ was the first Indian movie to have an actor play a double role. In it ‘Anna Salunke’ played the roles of both Ram & Sita. In 1933 the first Indian talkie, Master Vithal’s ‘Awara Shahzada’ was released. It had ‘Shahu Modak’ enacting the role of a prince and a pauper. Since then much water has flown through the bridges of Ganga, Jamuna and Gomti.

I’m not an avid film-goer but I’m listing a few multiple actors and few multiple roles that crop up from the depth of my memory whenever someone talks about multiple roles:
Madhumati (Dilip Kumar – Reincarnation) (Vyjantimala – Triple Role/Reincarnation)
Phagun (Bharat Bhushan – Reincarnation) (Madhubala – Triple Role/Reincarnation)
Three movies I liked the most: Hum Dono (Dev Anand),Ram Aour Shyam (Dilip Kumar),Seeta Aour Geeta (Hema Malini)
I know there is long list of films and stars I’m failing to mention and I seek forgiveness for my omission. I am giving another list just to expose my knowledge or my ignorance about films:
Male Actor who has played the most number of roles in a single movie: Sanjeev Kumar – 9 roles
Actor who has played double/multiple roles in the most number of movies: Amitabh Bachchan – 13 movies
The actress that fascinated and mesmerized the most with her ravishing beauty is no other but our Piggy Chops – a seductress who has proved that beauty and brain and performance can also go the same street. She is an actress who has played the most number of roles in a single movie:- 12.

If Priyanka Chopra had taken away your breath with her glittering performance in ‘What’s Your Raashee?’ be ready for yet another pleasant shock of a performance! It’s none other than our own mishtu doyee Bipasha Basu. She will be demanding your aesthetic loyalties in her forthcoming film ‘Pankh’. She has donned 9 different looks for the film. Apart from nine different incarnations of the sensuous beauty there would a sumptuous treat of thrilling and scintillating song and dance routines.

Now stop wondering why the nine looks. Each of her new look has been designed to reflect the mood of the male lead played by Maradonna. In the film, she is his imagination… his alter ego.

Rest you will learn when the film is complete. Till then best of luck to you and Bipasha.
